"Free as in Freedom" contest

Each January 1st is Public Domain Day. I propose that to celebrate CivitAI hold a contest in January 2025 for users to create a LoRA (or other resource) exclusively using Public Domain, or CC-By images for training data and release the training data for the resulting LoRA. Entries could be almost anything but from the nature of it would be predominately be backgrounds (plenty of real world places with qualifying training data), styles of long deceased artists (Leonardo, or Eastman Johnson) or bygone cultures (medieval manuscript illuminations), historical figures, and public domain characters new or old (1929 versions of Buck Rogers and Popeye, or possibly as far back as mythological characters)

Why?
The bar for entry is low. Almost anyone can pull such data from Wikimedia Commons and the like and start tagging, so it would be a good way to encourage people to start making LoRAs when they otherwise wouldn’t.

it makes LoRA training a lot less intimidating when someone can look at the tags and images used and see that really is all it takes to get started (it’s what got me to start).

Random waifu stuff is effectively impossible unless someone wants to design their own character, make a lot of drawings, and put all those into the public domain (at which point just let them)
